Grandmother Day in Hosford

SLOW FOOD INTERNATIONAL GRANDMOTHER’S DAY

ALL ABOUT BEES WITH AWARD WINNING BEEKEEPER
BOB McCUTCHEON, SECRETARY OF COUNTY CORK BEEKEEPER’S ASSOCIATION – Kids and grownups can learn how honey is made

PLAN TING STRAWBERRIES AND MAKING JAM WITH ARTISAN GROWER DENISE BUSHBY – Children love fresh strawberries, and this is a chance to learn how to grow them and make jam from them - from West Cork’s expert!

DANCE THE AFTERNOON AWAY TO MUSIC FROM
THE THREE G’S (Two Grannies and a Grandad!)

CHILDREN’S ART COMPETITION FROM 12 NOON.
Kids are invited to paint or draw a picture on a theme of ‘Cooking with Grandma’ (materials provided) which will be judged by the Slow Food West Cork team. Best Picture wins lunch for two - as a gift for Grandma and Grandad, or Grandma or Grandad plus a guest (€1.00 entry fee as a donation to Slow Food)

Demonstrations, art competition and music to run throughout the afternoon. Everyone welcome – Grannies, Grandads, Mums, Dads and children of all ages

Heritage Series in Bandon

Tonight is the Night of the Lamb! Meeting at Urru Culinary Store at 7.30pm, we will go to Dan Maloney's Butchers for a demonstartion and talk about lamb, and then back to Urru for tastings. There are a couple of places left, so contact Ruth Healy at Urru 023 54731 and reserve a place now.

The destination of the final night, March 31st, will be Martin Carey's and the subject for dissection will be poultry and offal.

Featuring:

Roast Lamb by Dianne Curtin,

Lamb Curry from Arun Kupnil (a treat in itself),

Dan Maloney will take you through the cuts and joints of lamb

Plus a guest speaker from Darrara Argicultural College on the different breeds.

Slow Food Heritage Series


Discover

  • more about the meat that you eat,
  • how to identify different cuts of meat,
  • know which cuts to use for which type of cooking,
  • how to find and recognise the best quality and value meat.

Join us for four evening Master Classes all about meat.

Slow Food West Cork Convivium, Urru Culinary Store, Dan Maloney Meat Centre and Martin Carey Butchers all of Bandon have joined together to provide a unique opportunity to give a masterclass by meat and culinary experts.

The evening will start in Urru, Bandon and move around to the butchers for butchering demonstrations, instruction on identifying cuts, characteristics, matching cuts to cooking methods and budgeting.

We then move back to Urru for refreshments and discussion on meat issues, traceability, food chain, organic, free range, freezing and recipes.

Refreshments, Recipes and Special Offers are included.

Practicalities:

Tuesdays 3rd March, 10th March, 24th March and 31st March

7.30pm – 9pm.

Maximum 25 people.

€25 per night (€20 Slow Food Members) or €80 for all four Master Classes.
